Pairs, perfect pairs, dragon bonuses and other propositions vary by table. The correct question is never “How much can this pay?” It is “How does the payout compare with the probability?”
Many baccarat side bets carry materially higher house edges than the main Banker and Player wagers. Exact values depend on the variant and paytable, so a side-bet article that quotes one universal number is incomplete.
Three-step evaluation
- Identify the exact event. “Pair” may mean different things across variants.
- Record the exact payout. 11:1 and 12:1 are not interchangeable.
- Calculate expected value. Multiply each outcome probability by its net result, then sum.
Why payout size is psychologically powerful
A rare event needs a large payoff merely to approach fair value. Casinos can advertise a visually exciting number while retaining a substantial edge if the event is rarer than the payout implies.
